"Scenes From My Life"
February 15 - March 29, 2013
Main Gallery: "Scenes from My Life" Wayne Shilson, Bemidgi MN
My work to date comprises paintings that are done in the pointillist style and can be described as fragmented. At their core, these paintings are a representation of my inner self. My childhood was fragmented, moving from place to place, sometimes twice in one year. Painting became my means to achieve some sense of continuity and order. I create dreamy and surreal scenes, because I imagine a perfect world where the turmoil of my inner self is not present...an escape from reality."
Lower Gallery:"Life Studies: Perspectives of an Artist" Taylor Conlin, Minot, ND
For me a piece begins with a thought; a concept that inspires a sketch. With an understanding of classical art and a love of beauty as my guide, I then work to refine and cultivate the image until it becomes a finished composition. I strive to create paintings and drawings that speak true to life and spark the emotions of the viewer. Whether in the rich color and texture of a still life, the spirit and complexity of the human figure, or the majestic light and wonder of nature, every composition embodies a process and journey that I adore.
